BOTANICA 2008 - Mariposas, Margaritas & Mustangs, focuses on butterflies with the upcoming Butterfly Conservatory at the South Texas Botanical Gardens & Nature Center in the spotlight.  Botanica 2008 is 6 to 10 p.m., Thursday, March 13, 2008 at the Congressman Solomon P. Ortiz International Center, 402 Harbor Drive.

The evening begins with a complimentary margarita (or non-alcoholic version) and opening of the Silent Auction.  The Corpus Christi Mustangs are donating, cooking and serving their sought after barbeque dinner, followed by desserts prepared by the Ortiz Center.

A small flight cage - a walk through butterfly conservatory - will be set up on-site allowing guest to enter the enclosure and interact with live butterflies - a preview of the much anticipated conservatory in the new Butterfly Garden.  Local butterfly enthusiasts Jack & Betty Prentiss will visit with BOTANIC guests while displaying their substantial butterfly collection.

The silent auction continues as popular local group Carl Lewis & the Deadbeats rocks into funky "Boomer Tunes" for listening and dancing.

Honorary Chairs of this year's event are Henry & Janice Garrett.  Henry also serves on the Botanical Gardens & Nature Center Board of Directors.  Event Co-Chairs are Board President Cathy Skurow, and Executive Board member Dixie Oshman.
